Þórsmörk

About this trip

The majestic Þórsmörk Mountain Range is an absolute must see for nature lovers and one of our most popular day tours – here you will be able to experience a range of magnificent landscapes including waterfalls, glaciers, a volcano and much more. The adventure starts 11 min from Seljalandsfoss waterfall (see Google maps location here Google MAP) where you will be picked up in our modified 4×4 Super Jeep that will take you places no normal vehicle can. We will be driving along rough mountain tracks and cross un-bridged glacial rivers on our way to Þórsmörk also known as the valley of the Thunder God Thor.

First, we will stop at Gígjökull outlet glacier which is the glacier tongue of the Eyjafjallajokull glacier-volcano. On this trip we will also see the popular sights; Eyjafjallajökull volcano, Tindfjallajokull glacier, and Mýrdalsjökull glacier where the well-known volcano Katla lies within. Then, you have the option of hiking to either:

Merkurker: a small canyon surrounded by high mountains and green hills with an underground river that goes through a cave.
Naurhúsagil: a narrow canyon where you will follow the river and climb a small waterfall to get to a fairytale-like waterfall.
Stakkholtsgjá: a big canyon with 100 meter high awe-inspiring cliffs that leads to a hidden waterfall – Game of Thrones was also filmed in this picturesque canyon.

If you want to add more excitement to your day with us, we also offer ATV tours for an additional price. Please note that the age to operate an ATV is 18 years old and a fully valid driver’s license is needed. Children 6 years or older and people who don’t have a driver’s license are welcome to ride as passengers. The price for a one-hour private ATV tour per ATV bike (shared or solo) is ISK 19,900.
